Select your CableCARD brand (see CableCARD Troubleshooting to find your brand):
MOTOROLA
Con - Should say Yes
If this field reads No, the card is not activated. You will be unable to view most, if not all of the channels in your subscription. Call the cable provider to resolve this issue. Occasionally, you will see a No in this field when the card is actually activated. This false error results from a bad connection to the cable headend; be sure to check VCTID and OOB Msgs to ensure a connection.
Val - Should say V
If this field has a question mark (?), the card is not paired with the DVR. You might be unable to view most, if not all of the channels in your subscription. Contact your cable provider to resolve this issue.
Auth - Should say S
If this field contains any other value than S, the CableCARD has not received proper authorization for the channel and you need to contact your cable provider to properly authorize the card.
-
CAD: Channel Authorization Denied. This error usually means that the cable company hasn't added the channel to your subscription, or authorized it for that card.
-
FWK: This is a temporary error. You might still receive all of your channels, so don't call the cable provider for this error alone unless you are unable to receive channels.
-
MP: Missing packets in authorization stream. You may see an error in live TV that says something like "Channel not authorized." This error appears when the CableCARD fails to receive all of the authorization information from the headend. Check the signal strength and quality by following the instructions at Troubleshooting Digital Cable TV Signals.
-
NS: The card is not staged and incorrectly paired. You will probably see errors in Con and Val as well, and the CableCARD might be missing critical firmware. Call the cable provider to resolve this issue.
-
?: The card has not been successful.
CCI - A value between 0x01 and 0x07
This field displays the copy protection setting for the program/channel that is currently airing.
-
If the CCI value is 0x00, it means there is no copy protection on that channel, and a CableCARD is not required. Instead, check your cable connections and the quality of the cable signal coming into the TiVo DVR.
-
If the CCI value is not 0x00, you need a correctly paired CableCARD to view the content.
VCTID - Should be a number greater than 0
The Virtual Channel Table ID (VCTID) value gives the ID of the channel map that is currently stored on the CableCARD. This channel map gives the tuning frequency and station call sign for every channel in the lineup.
-
If the channel map is missing, the VCTID will be 0. Your TiVo will either display an error, the channel will be blank, or both. Also check the VCT Rcvd field—this shows the data packets as they are received by the DVR. This number should increase over time.
-
If the channel map is incorrect, the VCTID will display a number other than 0, but an incorrect channel will display for the channel number you have tuned to.
-
If all other values for your CableCARD are correct, but you are still seeing the wrong channel for the channel number you have tuned to, you might have the wrong cable lineup selected in Guided Setup. See Repeating Guided Setup for instructions.
OOB Msgs - Should be a number that increases when you refresh the screen by pressing Select (or press the Slow button to autorefresh every few seconds).
If OOB Msgs doesn't increase, the TiVo doesn't have a connection to the cable headend, preventing the CableCARD from being paired. You will see no channels.
-
Make sure the coax cable is securely connected to the Cable input, not Antenna.
-
If the coax cable is correctly hooked up, and you have a second television that receives service from your cable provider, check to see if you are getting a signal there.
-
If you get a signal on the second television, the problem is localized to the room your TiVo is in. Try replacing the coax cable with a new one.
-
If you aren't getting a signal on the second television, contact your cable provider to check if there are any service disruptions or outages in your area.
CISCO/SCIENTIFIC ATLANTA
Status - Should say Ready
If this field reads Not Ready--No CA Strm, the card is not activated. You will be unable to view most, if not all of the channels in your subscription. Call the cable provider to resolve this issue.
Active program authorization - Where '#'=any number, the line should start with #-#- Ent...(Example: 3-101-Ent-(more numbers)
The important part of this line is Ent, which means the channel is entitled, or authorized.
If you see anything other than #-#-Ent (for example, Not Ent, N/A, Clear) the current channel is not authorized, and you will see an error message or blank screen when you tune to the channel.
If the line of numbers doesn't contain Ent, and you are sure that the channel is part of your package and that you have the correct lineup, you will need to call your cable provider to resolve the issue.

-
If the CCI value is not 0x00, you need a correctly paired CableCARD to view the content.

The SI table Counter displays the number of messages the CableCARD has received from the cable headend on the network. If you press Select while Refresh is highlighted, the SI table Counter values should increase.

This field shows whether or not the CableCARD is subscribed to the channel you are tuned to in live TV. When the level is FREE, the program is not scrambling. When the level is PROG or ES, the program is scrambling.

If you have the wrong channel map, this value will read 0, or you might see the incorrect channel displayed for the channel number you have tuned to.
If all other values for your CableCARD are correct, but you are still seeing the wrong channel for the channel number you have tuned to, this could be a result of the incorrect lineup being chosen during setup or not repeating Guided Setup after moving the TiVo to a new location.
See Repeating Guided Setup for instructions.
