Fix these by following the troubleshooting steps if your TiVo devices are connected via MoCA Network
Generally, though not always, when setting up or changing network settings one of two error codes are generated if there is an error.
C33: In this instance often means there is no MoCA signal.
N02: This can mean that the MoCA settings are incompatible between devices. To resolve make sure all MoCA channels are on "auto" and restart the TiVo devices & network.
MoCA Network – MoCA 2.0
-
Have your router/modem manufacturer set the MoCA output to 2.0 as a standard
-
At least one TiVo device must be working on the MoCA enabled router/modem before considering additional equipment
-
A MoCA adapter that can't be set below 2.0 can still create a loop to provide a connection that TiVo devices recognize
-
Splitters on a MoCA network must be 1650 MHz or higher
If these conditions are met, the internet will be robust enough to allow the TiVo DVRs to connect to the TiVo service. If this happens, your DVR will work as expected.
Point of Entry Filter (POE)
-
POE filter - is a small piece of equipment which keeps MoCA signals in your home
-
You must have a POE installed
-
POE is recommended for all TiVo installs
Physical Connections
-
Check if all equipment is plugged in and all light indicators are on.
-
Check if the TiVo equipment is connecting through the same network.
-
Check if the equipment is connected using the same coax line.
-
Check if all TiVo equipment is set to the same MoCA channel or (preferably) “Auto”.
MoCA Adapters
TiVo Bridge and MoCA Network Adapter
-
Check if the lights are on. If not, check if the power, Ethernet, and coax cables are not damaged, secured and connected.
-
If these steps don’t resolve the issue, you may replace the cable, even if there is no visible damage, since damage to cables is not always visible.
-
The lights may not turn on during the initial setup, and may not stay lit all the time.
-
The lights may only be lit when the coax is connected to an active MoCA signal.
-
If your Adapter like most MoCA Network Adapters has a switch, check if it is set to the Run position or Configure option.
-
Disconnect and reconnect the power, Ethernet, and coax cables.
-
Set up the network again in Network Settings on the DVR.
-
If you are using a DVR in Bridge mode to create MoCA network, make sure to:
-
Ascertain all coax splitters associated with the setup and the house must be 1650 MHz or higher. The TiVo Bridge comes with the 1.65 GHz Coax Splitter.
-
If the MoCA Network Adapter issue lingers, replace it with a TiVo Bridge, since it is designed specifically for TiVo devices.
The MoCA Loop
-
Check if you only have one MoCA Network Adapter or MoCA enabled TiVo DVR connected to your router via Ethernet.
-
Check if you did not accidentally connect both coax and Ethernet cable to a MoCA enabled DVR on the MoCA network.
For more information, see MoCA Setup and Info.
Tuning Adapters
If a tuning adapter is part of the network
-
Ensure the MoCA network adapter is not plugged into it.
-
Internet Connection
-
Check if the devices on your MoCA network can connect to the internet.
-
If not, contact the person or company that helped you set up your MoCA network.
Only the TiVo equipment doesn’t connect to the Internet
-
Check the MoCA loop.
-
Remove all third-party devices (e.g. have the customer bypass all switches and set up the TiVo equipment on one router – even if that entails changing the boxes’ locations or doing a location test. Refer to How to Perform a Location Test.
-
-
Hook up your TiVo device in a different location.
PHY Rates on the MoCA enabled TiVo DVR
PHY rates only appear on MoCA-enabled DVRs.
-
Go to the View Network Status screen:
-
For TiVo EDGE, TiVo BOLT and TiVo Roamio on TiVo Experience 4, navigate from Home > Menu > Settings > Network Settings > Network Troubleshooting > Network Status.
-
For TiVo BOLT on TiVo Experience 3, navigate from TiVo Central > Settings & Messages > Network Settings > Network Troubleshooting > Network Status.
-
For TiVo Roamio and TiVo Premiere on TiVo Experience 3, navigate from TiVo Central > Settings & Messages > Settings > Network > View Network Status.
-
You will see a TX and RX PHY rate for each MoCA node. Each node represents a MoCA device.
The required PHY rate to achieve three simultaneous streams from a single DVR is 180. This is the ideal rate to achieve 100 mpbs throughput.
A PHY rate that drops as low as 130 will cause:
-
Choppy video
-
Distorted audio
-
and other quality issues
Factors that causes low PHY rates includes:
-
Contact your cable company or an independent professional for assistance if you are unable to determine what is causing the PHY number to drop too low (below 130).
