My Android device can't find my TiVo device
-
Restart your mobile device and verify you are connected to the network.
-
Make sure you have the updated version of the TiVo App and the latest version of Android.
-
-
-
If your device still can't locate your DVR, restart your network router by unplugging it, waiting 30 seconds and plugging it back in. Once the router restarts and your Android device has reconnected to your router, attempt to locate and connect to your DVR again.
The TiVo app uses the Bonjour discovery system and in some instances, certain routers do not support this system. Please check with your router manufacturer to determine if there is a defect and if upgrade is available.
-
If you are using a wireless connection on your TiVo DVRs, you may want to consider using a wired connection through Ethernet or MoCA. This will improve the speed of your video downloads.
The TiVo Stream will not work on a wireless connection. Both the TiVo Stream and the Premiere series DVR you are streaming from must be connected to the same router by Ethernet or MoCA. Streaming may not be possible if your Android device is using a Virtual Private Network (VPN).
-
Make sure the Network Remote Control setting on your TiVo DVR is enabled. To verify, go to:
Devices on TiVo Experience 4 (software version: 21.x or later)
TiVo Series | Menu Path from Home |
TiVo EDGE TiVo BOLT TiVo Roamio | Menu > Settings > Remote, CableCARD, & Devices > Network Remote Control |
TiVo Mini | Menu > settings > Remote & Devices > Network Remote Control |
Devices on TiVo Experience 3 (software version: 20.x or earlier)
TiVo Series | Menu Path from TiVo Central |
TiVo BOLT TiVo Roamio | Settings & Messages > Remote Control, CableCARD & Devices > Network Remote Control |
TiVo Premiere | Settings & Messages > Settings > Remote Control, CableCARD, & Devices > Network Remote Control |
TiVo Mini | Settings & Messages > Remote & Devices > Network Remote Control |
You might need to restart the DVR for the Network Remote Control setting to take effect.

Streaming/downloading issues
In addition to the troubleshooting listed below, be sure to check out Out-of-Home Streaming for more information.
I can't stream recordings or Live TV to my Android device
Is your device rooted? As part of the effort to ensure secure distribution of content to Android devices, TiVo and our content partners have established specific guidelines. Unfortunately, rooted devices do not meet these guidelines and are therefore restricted from accessing the streaming feature. See TiVo App for Android: Installation for more information on streaming requirements.
There are multiple factors that can hinder a live TV stream. Here are the most common issues and suggested troubleshooting steps:
Streaming Live TV
-
Not enough tuners - Streaming live TV requires a dedicated tuner from your DVR. Your DVR uses a process called Dynamic Tuner Allocation to automatically dedicate tuners for streaming to other devices. However, if all of your tuners are being used, you will not be able to stream Live TV until you manually free up a tuner.
-
Network issues - Out-of-home streaming relies both on your home network and the network you connect to away from home. If either network is not functioning (or working with too low a connection speed), out-of-home streaming will not function correctly. To troubleshoot your home network, see General to Advanced Network and Wireless Troubleshooting Tips. If your home network is working correctly but the away-from-home network you are using is causing issues, try moving to a different location with a stronger network connection.
You must have UPnP enabled on your router for Out-of-home streaming to work. Refer to your router manufacturer's instructions for assistance with enabling UPnP.
Streaming recordings
-
Content with copy protection cannot be streamed using the Out-of-Home Streaming feature. Only non-copy-protected ("0x00—Copy freely") can be viewed. See Copy Protection: FAQ for more information about copy-protection.
-
If the program you are trying to stream is not copy-protected, there might be a problem with either your home network or the out-of-home network you are connected to. To troubleshoot your home network, see General to Advanced Network and Wireless Troubleshooting Tips.
-
If your home network is working correctly but the away-from-home network you are using is causing issues, try moving to a different location with a stronger network connection.
Recordings are disappearing from my DVR after downloading them with the TiVo Mobile app
Due to copy protection on premium content, the download requires that the original recording be deleted from the DVR. The TiVo Mobile application only enables the downloaded show to be played after the show has been deleted from the DVR.
After the show is downloaded to the TiVo Mobile application, it cannot be transferred back to the DVR nor can it be recovered from the Recently Deleted folder. You can record the show again or use OnePass to keep a bookmark to a streaming version of the show.
